pick one to sing it on the tv
our public domain hits: real records, run through baritoad. 1925 is as new as we're allowed to go.
our setup.
nothing fancy: a laptop on the tv, a little mixer, two wireless mics. the mics go into the mixer, not into baritoad.
- a speaker: [SPEAKER MODEL]amazon (opens Amazon in a new tab)
- xlr cables, receiver to mixer: [XLR CABLE MODEL]amazon (opens Amazon in a new tab)
no mics? a laptop and a hairbrush is fine.

any song you have.
a file or a link. it turns the singer way down, right on your computer.
the words, lined up.
it finds the lyrics and times them. fix any that are off.
friends join from their phones.
guests scan the code on the tv, make a toad, and pick songs from their phone. no app, no sign-in. it just needs the internet.

notes
cassie and i do karaoke at home a lot.
a lot of the songs we wanted to practice didn't have karaoke versions. not even on youtube.
so i made baritoad. drop in a song, it turns the singer down, and we queue them up and take turns.
it's not studio karaoke — sometimes you'll hear a little of the original singer. it's still really fun.
it's free and open source. tell me what you think.

questions
is it free?
yes. free and open source, party mode too. no account.
is it as good as real karaoke tracks?
no. those are made by hand, for karaoke. baritoad takes the singer out of the song you have. it mostly works — sometimes you'll still hear a bit of them.
what do i need?
a windows 10 or 11 computer (64-bit) and a tv. the first launch downloads about 2 GB of local models: they run on your computer, nothing goes to the cloud. a graphics card makes it a lot faster (more in the readme). mics are optional — they plug into a speaker or mixer, not baritoad. here's ours.
windows says it doesn't recognize it?
we haven't bought a signing certificate yet, so windows doesn't know us. click "more info", then "run anyway". the code is on github if you'd like to look first.
which songs work?
any song file you have, or a link. english works best for now.
does it upload my songs?
no. it all happens on your computer. here's what does go online.
does it work on my phone?
it runs on a computer. phones join in with party mode.
mac or linux?
coming later. watch it on github.
what's the vocals bin?
where the singers go. slide vocals up to bring them back.
